Awesome Cinematic BOKEH Effect: Photoshop tutorial

The mobile company VIVO has newly launched Vivo V9 model and a series of ads for it, specially showing its awesome camera features. The Vivo V9 comes with two rear cameras consist of a 16MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera, with a formidable 24 MP front-facing camera. The rear camera is also capable of shooting 4K videos at 30 fps.

The mobile company has called Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, as its brand ambassador and features him in the ads. One of the ads, titled, “Bokeh Mode”.

Bokeh Effect transforms every photo into an artistic masterpiece image and “Bokeh Mode” of Vivo V9 does exactly the same, that results of a DSLR camera.

Anyways we are not here to discuss about the camera quality of Vivo V9 or its different modes.  In this Photoshop tutorial, I will show you how we can apply the same effect to any ordinary picture (even the picture is not captured by DSLR) using very simple steps in less than 5 minutes.

Time to complete

Less than 5 minutes

Step:V

Now go to File>Place and browse for a “bokeh image” something like the image below (you can download from any free source) and place it in your document. Now make the Layer Blending Mode of this layer as “Screen”, so that the dark color of this mixes with the bottom layer and only the bokehs are visible.

Now go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set the value as appx. 45px and click Ok. It will give a blurry effect to the bokehs.
